GOODBYE SLAMMER AT THORPE PARK

It’s finally time to say a proper goodbye to Slammer, which is being dismantled and removed from Thorpe Park.
The ride opened back in 2005, and was one of only a few Sky Swatter attractions to ever operate. Alas, the concept was flawed. Despite offering a unique type of thrill, the maintenance demands were overwhelming and eventually uneconomical to continue.
Located close to Loggers Leap (and eventually Hyperia), Slammer had been SBNO (standing but not operating) since 2017, eventually becoming partially overgrown. It was presumably not removed earlier as it can actually be quite expensive to do.
Does Slammer’s removal point towards a future development in the area? Possibly, but not certainly. The Black Mirror attraction next to the ride has also been shuttered, meaning a decent sized combined space is now available, although a little awkward. There were rumours of a new attraction close to Hyperia after a trademark request was made for an attraction called Skybound by Merlin Entertainments. We’ll let you know if anything happens.
